A strong TCA team came ready to compete, but the Masters School Lions were ready for them. Eli Armstrong (10 pts) was locked in from the opening tip, splashing an early three and keeping the ball moving on offense. But despite a solid team effort on both sides of the ball, Masters ended the first quarter down 12-8. A bigger emphasis on ball movement in the second quarter opened up the scoring for the Lions, as Noah Piela (2 pts), Evan Ellrod (3 pts), and Xavier Ricketts (11 pts) each found the bottom of the net during the period.
Masters entered halftime trailing 18-15. But the momentum the Lions had built in the second quarter continued in the third, with Eli Armstrong, Isaac Earnest (4 pts), Cam Peters (1 pt), and Ben Fry (6 pts) each adding to the team's total. Continued pressure on TCA's guards and excellent inside defense from Patty Marcolesco (5 pts), Dylan McDonough (1 pt), and Regan Luchina kept the game close with the team entering the final quarter still trailing by 3.
But the Lions poured it in in the final 8 minutes, scoring 22 fourth quarter points on the back of Xavier, Eli, and Ben's relentless attack. These three combined for fifteen points, getting to the line over and over again and making TCA pay. On the other side the visiting team couldn't get their free throws to fall, shooting 0/8 from the line in the final quarter. That proved to be the difference in the game, as Masters escaped with a thrilling 47-40 win.
Isaac Earnest earned Player of the Game honors for his relentless defense and constant awareness on the court. Isaac kept the play alive many times with oppurtunistic offensive rebounds and contributed to disrupting TCA's defense with his backdoor cuts. Isaac was always in the right place at the right time. Great game Isaac!
