Theatre
The Master’s School theatre department provides an exceptional and immersive experience in the performing arts, where students are empowered to explore their creativity, develop leadership, and build lasting friendships. From acting and playwriting to stagecraft and production, students are involved in every aspect of creating a performance, gaining hands-on experience while working closely with faculty mentors. Our theatre program goes beyond performance—it’s a journey of personal growth, where students build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while bringing their creative visions to life.
Playwriting
The fall semester playwriting course instructs budding playwrights regarding the principles of dramatic writing while diving into an all-immersive, high-energy, experience of creating a new play for The Master’s School. The course is made up of analysis of classic plays, writing lessons, writing prompts, writing exercises, scene writing, and workshops to culminate in the creation of an original play. This course is intended to be followed by the Drama Production course in the spring semester.
Theatre Production
This Upper School drama production course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the various elements involved in producing a play. Students will explore acting, stagecraft, and production techniques while actively participating in creating a full-scale theatrical production. Through practical experience, collaboration, and critical analysis, students will gain valuable insights into the world of drama production. Students will produce the play written by the Playwriting Class in Semester One.
Spring Theatre Presentation
All Middle and Upper School students are invited to participate in presenting an original play, written and produced by Upper School students. Both experienced and novice actors may audition for acting roles, and all students may volunteer for the stage crew, lighting, sound, costumes, or make-up and hair. This is a wonderful experience for all students as they become part of a cohesive, supportive group that bonds students together from multiple age groups. Lower School students are often invited to fulfill a particular role as well.

The Master’s School is an independent, college-preparatory, non-denominational Christian day school enrolling children in preschool through post-graduate in West Simsbury, CT.
